Question

Hello Gil,

My wife Car is a 07 328i sedan Base, 52k miles I would like to change Transmission Fluid and Filter. What Transmission is in the above Car, GM or ZF.

Does it has a Refill Plug on Pass. side or does it have none? Has drain Plug or not?

Would appreciate your Answer

Answer

Hello Mr. Schnabel, could you please provide me with the last 7 digits of the VIN number (we won’t publish it)? I need that information in order to look up the correct procedure along with the type of transmission that you have and the fluid specifications. Thank you.

  1. Hello Mr. Schnabel, your vehicle has the GM transmission, enthusiasts seem to prefer the ZF transmissions. As far as the service goes you are going to have to take it to a shop unless you have a scan tool with BMW software. You can perform the service as any other vehicle, take the pan and filter off and replace both, the screws for the pan have to be torqued ina specific sequence. As far as filling it here is a fill plug at the rear of the transmission, you have to remove one of the exhaust heat shields to be able to get to it. I use a special tool (pump) to fill it. After filling you have to use the scan tool in order to get the level correct, the transmission fluid has the be at a precise temperature in order to get the level correct. I also always you the BMW fluid, Dextron 6. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
