Question

My 2015 M4 Convertible keeps sending false messages: “Convertible top not secured” or occasionally “engine not operating properly – ok to drive.”
It’s still under warranty and dealer “updated the programming” and checked sensor on convertible, which was supposedly ok.
Is this issue repairable?

Answer

Hello Mr. Gelfon, thank you for the question. It can be fixed, however, expect it to be time consuming. Intermittent electronic issues are the hardest to diagnose for two main reasons. The electronics on the car are complex and intermittent issues are time consuming, especially if it has no known pattern, because you have to drive/run the car for a long time in order to duplicate the issue, it is almost impossible to correctly diagnose it while the issue is not present, and then again to verify the repair. My suggestion is to take the back to the dealer, but expect them to have the car for a few days in order to fix the issue. Good luck.
