Nelson C Silverio

Gil, I have a 2002 M3 vert with about 103,000 miles. The other day I turned the car off and a grinding sound came from instrument cluster all the dials started sippining and locked in max position. I turned the car back on the dials did not move the top would not go down and the air would not blow cold. All these were working fine before this incident. Any ideas.

Hi Mr. Silverio, it sounds like there is an issues with the gauge cluster in your description, however, any diagnosis will have to be done with a scan tool. The gauge cluster itself is a computer and also acts as an electrical and information hub for other computers, therefore any issues with it can affect other functions as well. Do not try to diagnose it without a scan tool, also do not try to install another gauge cluster as they have to be programmed to the car and will not work correctly otherwise. If you let me know where you are located I can give you a recommendation for a shop. Thank you.
