Question

Hi all its Jonathan from Mount Dora area… I have a bad starter motor in a 96 328I sedan and so far estimates to replace have been from 1800 down to 450. I read through Edmunds manuals and labor is very costly. I have the new starter in hand. I do most of the work on the car myself. Some even say you have to pull the engine! I need some valid expertise as to changing the Starter Motor out. The car still starts presently and has been like this for 5 years. If anyone can help me my email is I will drive 100 miles to put it in the right hands. But I will not pay more than the car is worth…

Thanks again

Answer

Hi Jonathan, sorry it took so long to answer. To replace the starter o the car the intake manifold has to be removed, the engine can stay in the car. To give you an idea on labor at my shop in Fort Myers it would be $410.00 for labor plus parts. The labor manual calls for 3.8 hours of labor. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thank you.
