Question

Do you know what brand oil BMW uses at production time? And what weight would you suggest for the Florida climate?

Answer

Good morning Mr. Baumgartel, I’m not a 100% sure because BMW has their oil branded for them but do not actually make it, I believe in the US it is Castrol, however, on your manual there is an approved oil specification list, any of the brands that have that specification will be ok.

As far as the grade, also on the manual there is an oil grade recommendation listed by temperature, always use that grade in the manual, in order to run a different grade than the factory recommends it usually means that the engine has been modified and you’ll need a lot of information (oil temperature, oil lab test, etc…) in order to make the correct decision. I could tell you what the recommendation is but I would need the VIN # in order to know what car/engine you have. Thank you.
