Question

I accidentally banged my radio in my 1987 BMW 325 IS and caused the loss of the Date, Time, MPG, etc information to go blank. What did I most likely damage and how or who can fix it?

Answer

Hello Mr. D’Agrosa, I assume by your description that you mean you lost the information from the OBC to the right of the radio. The most common issue is the light bar for the digital display goes bad.  You can find good aftermarket LED replacements or go with the factory style bar.  Additionally, check power and ground, as you may have a bad fuse.  Hope this helps.

  1. Gil – Thank you for your reply to my question. In looking more closely I could make out the clock time and it was correct which I’m sure means your diagnosis is right. Now I just have to find out where to get the correct “light bar”. Again, thank you for your help. NF D’Agrosa.
