Die Sonnen Küeste
“You’re a car, but most of all, what you are, what you’ve become, is a mate! And that’s what makes a car special. That’s what makes a car great. You start to think of it as a person. You start to love it!”
One of the fondest memories I carry from my childhood is my grandfather’s 1954 Lincoln. Navy blue with a cream-white interior. She was a beautiful thing. Her name was BETSY! I remember my grandfathers voice, full of warmth, saying, “let’s go wake-up Betsy and take her for a drive…”! I remember knowing she was a special member of the family. Other folks had cars. We had Betsy! To this day. I’m not sure how the remaining population was able to cope!
Since then I, (like most of you), have had a gazillion other cars…some I remember, others I prefer to forget. It’s true…if you are a car enthusiast, some cars can become as loved as a spouse. (For my safety, I’ll not go any further with this sentiment, but you get the picture).
I have several close friends that have saved every one of their BMW’s. I was not that smart… drive’m and turn’m. How I long for a few of those favorites. Oh well, lesson learned!
As for the “Betsy” I have now, (yea, I know…but how do you improve on a name like that?), I have chosen a wiser path…nothing but love…and oil…and tires…and service schedules for her!
Yes dear, I’m out here in the garage… sure I can carry the groceries… on my way…
Happy Motoring ya’ll…
