Vanity Mirror Light

Question

I have a 2013 535i MSport with 58K miles. The vanity mirror light on the driver’s side does not work.

1. I tested one of the bulbs by moving it to the other side and it works.

2. The door on the sun visor clicks when moved from left to right.

3. Took sun visor off and it looks ok (wires, hinge, etc.)

Any suggestions on what to look for next are appreciated.

Thanks,

Answer

Hello Mr. Henegar, I’m afraid there is no easy path to the solution. What will have to happen is the light bulb will have to come out and the connection will have to be checked for power and ground with a voltmeter. Make sure that the visor is down so that the switch will be on. If you have no power or ground you will have to work backwards from the bulb until you find where the bad connection is, first test the switch itself. The rub is that if that does not work you will have to have a BMW scan tool, anything that has electricity going to it will be controlled by a computer.

I hope that helps and please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you.

  1. Hi Gil,
As a follow up to the vanity light issue below. It was a micro switch and the dealer in Daytona replace the visor on CPO warranty since it was the micro switch. Thank you for your assistance.
